Assessing Soft Skills in Water Education
The Soft Skills Assessment Guide is a key output of the Skills4Water project, designed to help Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) evaluate the development of essential soft skills among students in water-related curricula. These six targeted skills—responsibility, motivation, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and flexibility/adaptability—are critical for preparing future professionals to meet the evolving demands of the water sector.
This guide offers a structured approach to assessment, including pre- and post-training questionnaires, scenario-based evaluations, and clear criteria for measuring student progress. Drawing on pilot implementations in Romania, Spain, and Serbia, it provides practical tools and recommendations for educators, such as integrating assessments throughout the learning process, using real-world water scenarios, and involving faculty in reflective practice.
By standardizing methods and embedding soft skills into curriculum design, the guide supports a holistic and sustainable strategy for enhancing employability and leadership in the water industry.
